Cuban medical team arrives in Belize

Posted: Wednesday, March 25, 2020. 8:21 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: This evening, a team of Cuban doctors arrived in Belize to help with the national response against the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The team, known as “The Henry Reeve Health Contingent,” is comprised of 60 doctors. They left from La Havana, Cuba earlier today. The contingent came to Belize despite their own country having 57 confirmed coronavirus cases, along with 1,479 people hospitalized for surveillance and 37,788 being monitored at home by doctors, according to international media sources.

The gesture shows the level of comradery and cooperation between Belize and Cuba, as the countries mark 25 years of diplomatic relations.

Earlier today, Belize’s business community pooled their resources to send a donation of supplies to Cuba, which included soap powder, bar soap, bath towels, sheets, garbage bags, cleaners, and disinfectants, to a combined value of over $8,000.
