Cuba kickstarts solar microgrid

 HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 18 (ACN) The Center for Energy Information and Development Management (CUBAENERGIA) set in motion today a microgrid for power generation with solar photovoltaic (PV) devices for research, development and self-supply of renewable sources.

The technology is part of a project to develop these networks in Cuba and the result of a donation by the international initiative Integrated control system for energy supply through hybrid systems in isolated communities in Cuba Phase II.

According to CUBAENERGÍA, the funding comes from the Science, Technology and Innovation Program for Integral and Sustainable Energy Development and the design is a joint work of the Spanish Center for Environmental and Technological Energy Research, the Bornay Company, the Cuban Society for the Promotion of Renewable Energy Sources and Environmental Respect (CUBASOLAR) and the NGO Solidarity for Development and Peace (SODEPAZ).

CUBAENERGIA is attached to the Agency of Nuclear Energy and Advanced Technologies of the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment.
