On March 19th, at #HNPW2025, Alex Ross, Global Lead at Talk To Loop, joined a critical discussion on fraud and corruption in humanitarian aid, hosted by the Conflict and Civicness Research Group with Nisar Majid and Sarah Kilani as facilitators. She was joined by Paul Harvey (@Humanitarian Outcomes, Yemen), Anthea G. (GiveDirectly, DRC), and Javier Rio (ECHO, Somalia) to discuss the harsh realities of aid diversion and the urgent need for reform. The key takeaways? Even the most rigorous risk management systems can't fully prevent fraud. Communities need independent, safe, and anonymous reporting tools, like Talk To Loop, to hold aid efforts accountable. Fraudsters are people who seem really nice and kind and are usually one step ahead of us in how to find ways to get at funds, we need to work together to constantly find ways to reduce risks. It's a job never done! Here at #HNPW2025 we are seeing stronger calls for collective, integrated systems to reduce duplication and waste. So what’s the way forward? Read our latest article to find out.

About us
Talk to Loop is an independent, multidirectional, accessible, long-term Feedback and Safe Reporting Mechanism for communities in crisis. The platform facilitates a seamless, multilingual, real-time dialogue, between communities, organisations, donors and decision makers to improve the effectiveness and accountability of Aid. A global, accessible tool for people to safely share and receive feedback on what is important to them, at any time, from anywhere, in their own language, for free. At Talk to Loop we envision a world where accountability and responsiveness drive the way we measure impact —a world where community voices shape investment. And we are proving it’s possible. NGOs in DRC highlight accountability gaps & embrace Talk to Loop as a possible solution🚨 A survey, conducted by the INGO Forum (FONGI) and the DRC National NGO Network (CONAFOHD) in November 2024, reveals that over 60% of NGOs in the Democratic Republic of Congo lack proper feedback and complaint mechanisms, making it harder for communities to report concerns. The good news? 97% of respondents are ready to adopt Talk to Loop as a secure, inclusive tool to enhance accountability and transparency. 📢 Participants: 124 Congolese National Organisations and 17 International NGOs. With strong local support, we have been working for a while to secure enough institutional support to bring Talk to Loop to the DRC, with the intention of starting in the Kivus! 💡 🔗 Learn more about the survey here: https://lnkd.in/gF7yAShN #Accountability #TalkToLoop #theDRC #HumanitarianAction

In his March 2025 letter to the IASC Principals, Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths introduced the Humanitarian Reset, a call to cut bureaucracy, shift power to local actors, and focus on life-saving aid. These reforms are urgently needed, but as funding tightens and we already see accountability measures like community feedback systems being scaled back, at Talk To Loop we wonder who will ensure aid reaches those who need it most? Read this article for the full insights. #HumanitarianReset #CommunityVoices #AidAccountability

The latest DRC: Indigenous Peoples Must Not Be Forgotten in Conflict report from Minority Rights Group sheds light on the challenges facing marginalised communities: 📌 escalating conflict and displacement continue to devastate lives 📌 ethnic minorities and indigenous peoples face discrimination and limited access to justice 📌 unchecked resource exploitation is fuelling violence and displacement 📌 calls for stronger accountability, community-led solutions, and global support to protect human rights are more relevant than ever At Talk To Loop, we have been engaging with national and international actors active in DRC response programming about ways to cooperate in strengthening on-the-ground accountability mechanisms. We are seeing that viable solutions are possible, but they require collaboration and unity. For those working towards meaningful and transformative inclusion, where community agency drives aid programming that delivers dignity and long-term prosperity, this is a must-read! #HumanRights #DRC #CommunityAgency #Accountability #Inclusion #JusticeForAll
#DRC STATEMENT 🌐 Indigenous peoples must not be forgotten in #DRCconflict. According to credible reports received by MRG, indigenous communities living in affected areas find themselves in a situation of particular vulnerability. This is due to repeated and protracted displacements and to the destruction of their shelters, forcing them to be on the move in a conflict zone. They are facing heightened risk if they try to return to their ancestral territory as it is occupied by rebel groups. They also face unique challenges in terms of access to humanitarian aid. 🚀 New secure referral options on Talk to Loop! 🔒 We’re excited to introduce two new encryption methods that compliment the way Sensitive Feedback Leads send sensitive referrals through the Talk to Loop platform to organisations responsible for responding. Protecting confidentiality is our priority, and now we have two additional secure pathways: ✅ Mailvelope (PGP encryption) – Conforms to UN security standards but may be challenging for organisations with low digital literacy to use. ✅ Virtru encryption – A user-friendly alternative that still provides strong security, making encrypted referrals easier to use but safer than standard communication tools. These new options help us balance security and accessibility, ensuring that sensitive information remains protected while keeping the referral process simple. #Safeguarding #DataProtection #SecureReferrals #DigitalSecurity #SaferCommunication #HumanitarianResponse #AidTech
