Firedogs and moon idols belong to the symbolic world of the Urnfield Culture. A general approach on this group of objects, which have mainly been found in settlements, is still pending. Recently, the firedogs and moon idols of the late Bronze Age and early Iron Age in Central Europe have been in the focus of research. A systematic analysis of these objects from graves has produced new results, particularly with regard to the chronological position, the distribution, and their cultural meaning. The first firedogs and moon idols in graves appear in the 9th century BC. During the early Iron Age they became typical in eastern Central Europe. They emerge only in some archaeological cultures and are linked to specific groups of persons. Apparently these groups are religious communities. The firedogs and moon idols are an expression not only of material culture but especially of spiritual culture.

The copper age begins in Central Germany with the Gatersleben culture. The settlements of this culture are situated in such areas, in which the contemporaneous Roessen culture is missing. Perhaps the new settlers were lured by the copper and salt occurrences to Central Germany, because it is noticeable that they settle only, where these raw materials occur. The copper age in Central Germany has differentiated settlement systems with central and fortificated places. That differentiates it of the predecessors and from the successors.

Floods cause environmental hazards and influence on socio-economic activities. In this study, we evaluated the historic flood frequency at a confluence in the middle Yellow River, China. A non-parametric, multivariate, empirical, orthogonal function matrix model, which consists of time correlation coefficients of flood discharge at different gauge stations and flood events was used for the analysis of flood frequency. The model addresses the characteristics of confluent floods such as frequency and the probability in multiple tributary rivers. Flood frequency analysis is often coupled with studies of hydrological routing processes that reduce the flood capacity of the rivers. Flood routing to the confluence were simulated using kinematic wave theory. Results of this flood frequency analysis showed that flooding frequency has intensified in the past 500 years, especially during the 19th century. Flooding in streams above the confluence was more frequent than in streams below the confluence. Over the last 2000 years, concurrent flooding in multiple tributary rivers accounted for 67.5% of the total flooding in the middle Yellow River.

The booklouse, Liposcelis bostrychophila, is a worldwide pest of stored products. For decades, only thelytokous parthenogenetic reproduction was documented in L. bostrychophila. Male L. bostrychophila were first found in Hawaii in 2002. In 2009, a sexual strain was found in Arizona. We examined the morphology of both males and females of the Arizona strain and compared the Arizona sexual strain with the Hawaii sexual strain and the parthenogenetic strains of L. bostrychophila. The sexual and parthenogenetic strains show some differences in eye morphology. To examine the relationship between sexual and asexual lineages, we sequenced the mitochondrial 12S and 16S ribosomal RNA genes of males and females from the Arizona strain. Phylogenetic analyses of L. bostrychophila individuals revealed that: 1) the sexually reproducing colony found in Arizona contains two closely related mitochondrial DNA haplotypes -one present in only females and the other in both males and females; and 2) the Arizona sexual strain was most closely related to a parthenogenetic strain in Illinois. We detected Rickettsia in all of the parthenogenetic individuals we checked but not in any Arizona sexual individuals. Further evidence is required to establish whether the presence of Rickettsia is linked to asexual reproduction in Liposcelis.
The fodder primarily used in broiler breeding contains 1,5 percent of the mel stern (calcium carbonate) which is found to be a rich source of minerals such as calcium, phosphorus and magnesium. The most important issue in fodder design process is to obtain the greater level of the mineral assimilation by livestock, the studies has been conducted to create the new fodder formula to improves the efficiency of assimilation for intensive growth of animals [3]. This studies were the part of the project which aim was to determinate the usefulness of the fodder where calcium carbonate was replaced by the marine fish bone powder. Formulas containing two types of bone powder were investigated: from the norwegian salmon and from the cod. The aim of the study was to compare the effects of the used fodder enriched with marine fish bones powder on the microhardness of broilers bone.

This paper studies the incentives to enlarge a monetary union under alternative assumptions about the extent of market reform within the union and accession countries. Lack of labour mobility, or wage/price flexibility, or fiscal reform, brings costs for both new entrants and in the existing union. Countries will therefore want a union where there has been sufficient reform, and also one where markets are more flexible than their own. But existing members will want the same properties of their partners. Fiscal restrictions may exaggerate this incentive mismatch and could therefore delay the necessary reforms. Similarly, too large costs up front may also delay those reforms.

The heat island effect is a well known feature in the microclimate of urban areas but only a few studies have addressed the effect for smaller urban areas. We examine here the impact of Columbia, Missouri and the University of Missouri campus on the microclimate (temperature and precipitation) of central Missouri. We purchased twenty Radio Shack® digital Max/Min thermometers and ten standard raised-edge rain gauges and these were given to students, staff, and faculty participants who were chosen for their reliability to provide daily data over the course of a year, site the instrument, and their location (in order to provide reasonable coverage locally). We also included information provided by automated and cooperative weather stations, and the weather station at the regional airport located 11 km (7 miles) southeast of Columbia. Our results indicate that the city has no discernable impact on the distribution of monthly precipitation totals. We found a distinct urban influence on the local surface temperatures, and the inner city region and the urbanized area of south Columbia were approximately 2 -3 o F (1.0 -1.5 o C) warmer in the mean than the surrounding environment. This difference grows to 3 -6 o F (1.5 -3.5 o C) when comparing the mean of the warmest station in the city to that of coolest station outside Columbia. We also observed a seasonal influence, as the heat island effect was more evident in the mean monthly maximum (minimum) temperatures during the warmest (coldest) months.
Given that gaining access to external resources is a critical component of entrepreneurial activity, a great deal of research has been done in an attempt to predict and explain this phenomenon. Unfortunately, this literature is largely scattered across a wide variety of somewhat disconnected research streams, which makes interpreting the insights that have been hitherto gained challenging. In response, we identify a sample of 76 relevant articles from the leading management and entrepreneurship journals that examine entrepreneurial access to resources. Using a narrative synthesis approach, we then organize these articles based on the strategies (projective and/or interpersonal) and tools (communications, actions, associations, and/or intangibles) by which entrepreneurs gain access to resources. Based on our categorization, we discuss the major themes in the extant literature and offer suggestions for how to move research on entrepreneurial access forward in the future.

Almost one hundred years have passed since Ludwig Wittgenstein wrote his Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus. In this book, Wittgenstein reduced the world to a set of facts and removed values from it. In a world that is the totality of facts, there can be no ethical propositions, ethics cannot be expressed, and there can be no philosophical reflection on a good life. My book attempts to prove that the world created by human beings is primarily a world of values, and that ethics and political thinking are possible. I present a vision of the good state and a happy society. I show that the main value of social life and the basis of politics is cooperation. Like Wittgenstein, I use numbering to designate the issues discussed, and the sections numbered 7 to 7.54 are my responses to the propositions included in his sections 7 and 6.4 to 6.54. Tractatus Politico-Philosophicus is simultaneously published in two languages (English/Polish). The Polish text is used alongside of English. Tractatus Politico-Philosophicus (first sections and 7) 1 Politics is the art of governing; it is the organization of society for cooperation. 1.1 The art of governing consists of both the ability to efficiently organize a society for joint action (cooperation) and the ability to keep oneself in power. 1.11 The organization of society for cooperation is superior to keeping oneself in power, which is only a means to an end. 1.12 Keeping oneself—be it a particular politician or a particular party—in power cannot become an end in itself. 1.13 Keeping oneself in power is associated with a struggle for power, which occurs in political life to a greater or lesser extent, depending on the political system. . . . . . 7. We must speak about what we can no longer pass over in silence. 7.01 Propositions are not of equal value. Some make sense, others are meaningless; some express truth, others are false; some teach us something, others mislead or demoralize us. 7.1 The sense of the world lies in the world itself. It is determined by culture. 7.101 Each culture gives people a certain vision of the world. 7.102 By creating culture, human beings create their own environment, which is the world.
