What does this architecture show?

The architecture provides a visual summary of the main capabilities and products offered by Software AG in the area of integration and API management. It is neither showing all capabilities nor all products that Software AG offers in this area.

The architecture layout follows Software AG’s generic reference architecture which is shown and described here.

The connecting lines show the main flows of data, essentially rendering the architecture a data-flow architecture.

The architecture discusses capabilities and products and is not detailing deployment components or targets. However, when toggled to ‘product’ view, a color flag provides a simplified indication of deployment options. Many products are available both as a Service (SaaS) and for installation. The SaaS offerings are often indicated by an ‘.io’ in the name, for example, ‘webMethods.io MFT’ is the SaaS offering and ‘webMethods MFT’ the installed product.

For the central integration platform, various product editions with different characteristics exist:

  • The SaaS product ‘webMethods.io Integration’ is an integration platform as a Service’ (iPaaS) with a focus on empowering citizen developers and ease of use.
  • The customer – operated ‘webMethods Integration’ is an extensive integration platform with a focus on massive scalability, a very complete function set, and programmability for expert users.
  • Lightweight versions exist for operating the integration solution in a sidecar configuration.

Software AG is happy to work with you on an individual solution architecture that suits your specific requirements.

What does this architecture show?

The architecture provides a visual summary of the main capabilities and products offered by Software AG in the area of Internet of Things (IoT) and Analytics.

Products are available as a Service (SaaS) or as dedicated instances managed by Software AG. They can also be installed in customer-provided environments if these meet defined prerequisites. In particular, the Cumulocity IoT platform is also available in the single-server variant ‘Cumulocity IoT Edge’ that is optimized for Edge environments.

Finally, thin-edge.io is an open edge framework designed to be running on lightweight IoT devices. It is open-source and available for free. Your contribution is more than welcome!

What does this architecture show?

The architecture provides a visual summary of the main capabilities and products offered by Software AG in the area Business Transformation (‘BT’). It is neither showing all capabilities nor all products that Software AG offers in this area.

The architecture layout follows Software AG’s generic reference architecture which is shown and described here.

Business Transformation includes business-related activities (e.g., business strategy mapping), IT-related activities (e.g., IT portfolio management), and activities that require both business and IT, e.g., Information Governance. The Architecture very roughly sorts the capabilities with Business to the left and IT to the right.

The ARIS product family is rooted in business activities and reaches ‘ to the right’ to IT, while the Alfabet family is rooted in IT and reaches ‘to the left’ to business. There is a healthy overlap in the middle, including but not limited to Enterprise Architecture Management.

The architecture discusses capabilities and products and is not detailing deployment components or targets. Nearly all products and capabilities are available in both SaaS and individually deployed variants. Please contact Software AG to find the deployment option that suits your needs.

What does this architecture show?

This diagram shows the fundamental components and products offered by Software AG for Adabas and Natural. In addition, it displays integration components that include capabilities to integrate with legacy / mainframe.
The main purpose of this architecture is to give you a visual summary of the major high-level capabilities, and to show how these map to Software AG products. The diagram is neither showing all capabilities nor all products that Software AG offers; in fact there are multiple times as many fine-granular capabilities available for this area alone.

Capabilities and products from Software AG are shown as boxes in the middle of the architecture diagram, surrounded by non-Software AG components. The left side depicts ‘in-house’ components our customers currently own or operate. The right side shows external parties a business typically interacts with, in particular customers, suppliers, and partners (including government and other official authorities).

The connecting lines show the main flows of data, essentially rendering the architecture a data-flow architecture.

The green dividers indicate the systems on which the components operate. In this architecture, the focus is on differentiating between legacy (Mainframe) and non-legacy (Linux, Unix, Windows) environments. Importantly, the core components ‘Adabas’ and ‘Natural’ are available for both legacy and non-legacy. Also, Software offers a comprehensive set of services supporting ‘re-hosting’, that is moving systems from legacy to non-legacy.

Software AG provides comprehensive and mature capabilities for developing, source code management, testing, continuous integration, and deployment; supporting the demands of an agile DevOps approach. Those capabilities are summarized on a very high level in the yellow ‘Development’ area.

The bottom of the diagram contains a set of legacy-specific capabilities like zIIP™ Offloading and TP Monitoring.
