We are de­ligh­ted to an­noun­ce BieL­ei­CoS 2025, a work­shop on Com­pa­ra­ti­ve Syn­tax or­ga­ni­zed by the uni­ver­si­ties of Bie­le­feld and Lei­den. The two day work­shop will take place at Bie­le­feld Uni­ver­si­ty, Ger­ma­ny, on Thurs­day 22 May and Fri­day 23 May 2025.

Be­si­des the re­gu­lar con­fe­rence, there will be two panel ses­si­ons on Thurs­day af­ter­noon: one on  Com­pa­ra­ti­ve Syn­tax and Ty­po­lo­gy and one on Cor­pus Me­tho­do­lo­gy and Re­sour­ces.

The work­shop will be pre­ce­ded by a work­shop on Wed­nes­day May 21 on “Crea­ti­vi­ty in Ge­ne­ra­ti­ve Syn­tax” (De­tails and se­pa­ra­te call for pa­pers will fol­low).

Notes on tra­ve­ling

How to get here?

By plane

The fol­lo­wing air­ports are the clo­sest to the city of Bie­le­feld, from clo­sest to fur­thest:

 

  • Pa­der­born/Lipp­stadt (≈20-​26km)
  • Han­no­ver (≈110km)
  • Dort­mund (≈110km)
  • Düs­sel­dorf (≈190km)
  • Cologne-​Bonn (≈200km)
  • Frank­furt am Main (≈320km).

Some but not all air­ports have di­rect trains to Bie­le­feld Haupt­bahn­hof (Hbf) — this is the main rail-
way sta­ti­on.

By train

Bie­le­feld is well-​connected, with va­rious In­ter­Ci­ty and Re­gio­nal trains to choo­se from.

By tram (Stadt­Bahn)

There are four tram lines wit­hin Bie­le­feld.

To get to the Uni­ver­si­ty from Bie­le­feld Hbf, take the tram line 4 in the di­rec­tion of Loh­manns­hof to the stop Uni­ver­si­tät (5 stops, ≈8 mi­nu­tes). The other main stop of line 4 is Jahn­platz in the city cent­re (6 stops, ≈9 mi­nu­tes).


Single-​journey ti­ckets, 4-​journey ti­ckets, and day-​tickets can be bought at ven­ding ma­chi­nes at the major stops. Plea­se do not for­get to va­li­da­te your ti­cket once in­si­de the tram.

Note: Un­for­tu­n­a­te­ly, Goog­le Maps does not show the tram as an op­ti­on for pu­blic trans­port in the city.

By bus

There is a ple­tho­ra of bus lines in Bie­le­feld.

The line 31 stops at the Uni­ver­si­ty (stop Uni­ver­si­tät). The route is more sub­ur­ban than cen­tral.

We par­ti­cu­lar­ly wel­co­me pa­pers ex­pli­ci­tly ad­dres­sing syn­chro­nic or dia­chro­nic pro­per­ties of un(der)stu­di­ed va­rie­ties and/or phe­no­me­na, and pa­pers con­cer­ned with more ge­ne­ral ques­ti­ons, con­cer­ning, e.g., the re­la­ti­on bet­ween com­pa­ra­ti­ve syn­tax and lin­gu­is­tic ty­po­lo­gy, syntax-​interface map­pings, and our un­der­stan­ding of lan­guage as a co­gni­ti­ve sys­tem.
