The ruins were fantastic. There is also the Teatro Antico, which is still underground. We missed out on this as we didn't find out about it until we got there. They only admit small groups at a time and it was fully booked. Tickets are available from the Herculaneum entrance or on the Ticket One website, so you really need to book on advance. There is a virtual Archaeological museum in the town. This includes a short 3D film about Vesuvius, the opportunity to fly a virtual drone and a VR experience of walking round one of the palace gardens. Ideal for kids and teens! The museum is screen based about Herculaneum ruins and does not include actual discoveries from the site.
For visiting the surrounding areas, trains into Naples are regular, as are trains to Pompeii (but you have to change - the ticket man didn't tell us this!). Don't miss the chance to wander round the actual town of Pompei. It was beautiful! In fact, next time I would choose to stay there over Ercolano or Naples!

My grandchild suggests we would have been better staying in Pompeii and travelling to Ercolano one day. I had decided to follow what my neighbour suggested, based on taking a younger child to southern Italy.

We spent one night in Ercolano to visit the ruins of Herculaneum and break up our trip to the Amalfi Coast. The ruins are a must-see and you can experience authentic Naples pizza at RO.VI. We also enjoyed espresso and drinks at the Herculaneum Cafe. I'm not sure what you'd do here for more than a day or two, but the ruins and authentic cuisine were definitely worth our time!

The apartment was very nice and people of Ercolano very friendly. They really drive like crazy, but that is their way of life. Train station is really near the apartment and best option to reach Napoli, Pompei, Sorrento...

Ercolano is a small town nearby Vesuvio, which can be seen...
Ercolano is a small town nearby Vesuvio, which can be seen from most everywhere, Naples bay also is lovely and is seen from most of the places in the town. You can easily find nice fish, pizza, fast food and traditional local restaurants in 10-15 min walk. There is a nice but small botanical garden in the territory of the local university. They also have a park of mandarins/tangerines which you can pick up for free.
The ruins of Ercolano/Herculaneum exceeded our expectations! It is not overcrowded as Pompei, the territory you can walk through in 1-1.5 hours, moreover, some buildings are in better condition ... we liked it.
Good Self catering facilities. Within easy walking distance to the railway station and further exploration of the Bay of Naples and beyond. Herculaneum museum is virtually less than 10 minutes away at the bottom of the main road in Ercolano.Hosts were were very helpful with information, and available for easy contact during our 2 week stay . Besides providing a change of fresh linen they arranged an early morning Taxi to the Airport. Couldn't fault their support , if required, during our stay.
The most pleasant aspect of my entire stay was the host: Lucrezia is a very kind and helpful woman, always inquiring if I felt ok, etc. I liked the proximity of the b&b to the railway station Ercolano Scavi (20 minutes to Napoli and 20 minutes to Pompei). Supernarket Eurospin is also very near, with good prices, the Herculaneum ruins are 2 minutes walking from the b&b. You have a private kitchen, refrigerator, stove top and very delicious breakfast provided by Lucrezia
The organisation for a stay was excellent, family care we felt every time. The breakfast more than good (mom prepared hot and cold dishes as well as yogurts and selection of fresh juice) and meet all our expectations.
Especially would like to mention Ciro, the best ever guy we met with 24/7 ready to assist you in English in all logistics and organisational questions related to the visits around: Vesuvius, Pompeii, Naples, Ercolano, beaches, pizzerias, restaurants.
Location was of easy access from Ercolano Scavi train station. From there it was easy to walk to Ercolano and also take the bus up to Vesuvio. Breakfast was in a little Café down the block, simple and nice. They offered coffee or Cappuccino and a variety of croissants to choose from. There are also some good restaurants on the street in a walking distance. Room was small and simple, but pretty clean and with good WiFi. Good enough for a couple of nights.
Very clean facility, accommodating host, useful information on sightseeing.
Mr. Libberatto clearly loves doing this kind of job, warm person, very open to us.
In only a few days because the train station was near the house we were able to visit a lot.
Nearby fruit booth, store, caffé, pizzeria and restaurant with good food (Casa in Campania).
Besides Vesuvius, Pompei etc. I recommend in Ercolano: Herculaneum (Ercolano Scavi), Palazzo dei Corali.
Salvatore the owner was 100% helpful and full of information re the area. Our room was the corner room and very spacious with lovely high ceilings. The accommodation is in an old building and on the third floor with no elevator, but the accommodation itself has been renovated to the highest standard. The location is perfect for visiting the Ercolano Ruins - just a few steps away. It is also conveniently close to various restaurants and a market.
The hosts are wonderful people. They have a beautiful courtyard, which is big enough to park your car and great views from one side to Vesuvius on the other to the sea. Ercolano Miglio d'Oro station is extremely close, so you don't need to use your car if you are going to Pompeii or Naples. Herculanum is about a 20 minute walk from the accommodation. They're absolutely for every recommendation I'm happy to come back to.
Great central location, near the train station (3-5 min, direction Pompeii or Naples), 5 min to Ercolano ruins entrance, next to cafes and patisseries. The host is nice and place is clean. Wifi is great and breakfast is available in cafe nearby. You will find fridge, botteld water and coffe in the room. Ercolano is definetely worth the visit and you should try street food (La maison de la pizza - rosticceria)
An easy 4 minute walk straight downhill from the train station in Ercolano. Beautiful apartment with high ceilings and walls painted in Venetian colors. Good pizza close by. Excellent communication with off site host in English and on site assistance from Vito in Italian only. Cold water and some fruit in the fridge was very nice. The bed was large and comfortable.
The main reason for choosing this hotel was location. We came to Naples to see Herculaneum. This hotel is literally right across (a small) road to the heritage site - 1 minute walk to the gate. It was well-priced, very convenient and whilst I was expecting the room to be simple - there was a nice common area. Restaurants are in walking distance, and we ate well.
Great location, right opposite the ruins at Herculaneum and only a short walk to the train station (Ercolano Scavi) for getting into Naples or out to Pompeii. Very friendly and helpful staff on reception 24/7.
Lovely clean room, with plenty of space. Large communal area/balcony on the first floor for sitting out.
Breakfast was simple but plenty available.
The B and B was in a perfect location for access to the ruins, the train and the Vesuvius Express bus. The rooms were very clean and we loved the shower with hot water. It was quiet. Alex was great. All was perfect. Our highest recommendation.
Great location, a few meters away from Ercolano Scavi. Host is great and very reachable, welcome was fantastic and super friendly. Very quiet place, ideal for a couple nights to discover Ercolano and Reggia di Portici Museum. I highly recommend
Spacious room (suite). Good to escape the heat with the family without being stuck in a usual small hotel room. Special environment with the wall paintings etc. Walking distance to train stations & Herculaneum ruins.
