Cuba thanks German support for campaign against U.S. blockade

HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 29 (ACN) Fernando González, president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), thanked Germany for the support of the daily newspaper Junge Welt to the European campaign against the U.S. blockade of Cuba.

At a meeting with Dietmar Koschmieder, director of the newspaper, González referred to Junge Welt’s role in the campaign called Unblock Cuba and thanked Germany’s contribution to the release of the five Cuban heroes sentenced to prison in the United States for fighting against terrorism, one of whom was González himself.

The Cuban official also stated his appreciation to deputies of the Die Linke party for their solidarity with his country and their opposition to Washington's unilateral policy and its escalation.

Between August 2021 and February 2022, according to Cuban authorities, the U.S. blockade, intended to stifle the Island’s economy and topple its government, caused damages worth more than three billion dollars. In the first 14 months of Joseph Biden's administration alone, the effects of that policy caused losses adding up to 6,364 million dollars.

“The U.S. blockade has been surgically designed to target each of Cuba's sources of income as it viciously seeks to increase hardship in the daily life of the population,” the Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, recently said.
