Vom aserbaidschanischen Fernsehsender Meydan TV über iranische Blogs und syrische Radiostationen bis hin zu US-amerikanischen Internet-DissidentInnen: In Deutschland gibt es Dutzende Exilmedien, die auf unterschiedlichste Weise den Diskurs in ihren Herkunftsländern beeinflussen. Trotzdem ist nur wenig über ihre Arbeit bekannt, Sprachbarrieren erschweren eine Einschätzung der Inhalte.

Wie journalistisch ist das Informationsangebot der AktivistInnen, von denen viele auch hierzulande in Unsicherheit leben? Inwieweit trägt die konfrontative Nachrichtenproduktion zur Lösung von Konflikten oder deren Polarisierung bei? Wie können die Medien-Entwicklungszusammenarbeit, die Menschenrechtspolitik und die Medienpolitik Exil-Programme unterstützen?

Diese und weitere Fragen diskutieren Exil-Medienschaffende gemeinsam mit Akteuren der Medien-Entwicklungszusammenarbeit, der Menschenrechtspolitik und der Medienpolitik beim diesjährigen Jour Fixe des Forums Medien und Entwicklung (FoME). 

Der FoME-Jour Fixe 2016 wird organisiert von Media in Cooperation and Transition (MiCT) und Reporter ohne Grenzen.

FoME Jour Fixe 2016:
Exile Media in Germany – Between Journalism and Activism

From Azerbaijani Meydan TV to Syrian citizen journalists and internet dissidents from Sri Lanka: there are dozens of exile media outlets in Germany, which engage in all kinds of ways with the public discourse in their countries of origin. Yet, little is known about their activities.

How journalistic is the information provided by the activists? Does the confrontational production of news contribute to the resolution of conflicts or rather to their escalation? How can media development, human rights and media policies support such refugee programmes?

These and other questions will be discussed at the annual Jour Fixe of Forum Medien und Entwicklung (FoME) on

Thursday, May 12th, 2016 from 2 pm to 6 pm
at the Permanent Representation of the State of Sachsen-Anhalt
(Vertretung des Landes Sachsen-Anhalt beim Bund),
Luisenstraße 18, 10117 Berlin

We have invited exile journalists like Biniam Simon, editor in chief of Eritrean exile radio station Erena, Emin Milli of Berlin-based Meydan TV, Bashana Abeywardane of Journalists for Democracy in Sri Lanka, Maryia Sadouskaya-Komlach, who worked with European Radio for Belarus, Syrian citizen-journalist Abdalaziz Alhamza of Raqqa Is Being Slaughtered Silently and many more.

Journalist, media expert and RSF Germany board member Gemma Pörzgen will facilitate the meeting. The key note speech will be given by Stephan Steinlein, State Secretary at the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

We also welcome researchers and practitioners, donors and civil society members to discuss lessons learned and possible ways forward.

The aim of the Jour Fixe is to share experiences of working in exile, discuss recent developments and perspectives especially for exile journalists in Germany.

FoME is a network of institutions and individuals active in media development cooperation. It serves as the German platform for the exchange of experiences, research and further elaboration of concepts. It facilitates the dialogue between media practitioners, development politics and the scientific community.

The event is co-hosted by Reporters Without Borders Germany and Media in Cooperation and Transition (MiCT).
